Our researchers are examining how air pollution impacts human health. Unclean air introduces harmful particles and gases into the lungs and bloodstream. Pollutants can cause or worsen respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Long-term exposure can also increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
By measuring how air quality makes a difference to both short term and long term health outcomes, our researchers are helping to move the needle on this critical issue.
